Evelyn Thom
Hailing from Chicago, Evelyn Thom is a multi-instrumentalist with a focus on fiddle and guitar. Evelyn has enjoyed taking the stage across the United States as well as in Ireland, Canada, Croatia, Germany, and France. At 22 years old, she has studied with fiddle greats such as Liz Carroll, Oisín Mac Diarmada, Sean Cleland, Devin Shepherd, Katie Grennan, and Dylan Foley. Her guitar playing has been deeply shaped by her mentors Jesse Langen and Brian Torosian. Evelyn is currently in her Junior year at Northeastern where she studies classical guitar while continuing classical violin lessons.
As a soloist, Evelyn has competed at the All-Ireland many times and holds several regional medals from the Midwest Fleadh, winning the gold standard in 2020. She was also a youth scholarship recipient for the Swannanoa Gathering, Scoil Éigse, and the Francis O’Neill Irish Arts week. She is the 2019 winner of the Ireland Agency Award in recognition of her passionate work with the Chicago music community as teacher, performer and artist.
Evelyn is a founding member and featured soloist with Fiddle In The Middle, where she brings traditional Irish music to life alongside Steve Morrow and Jesse Langen. She has also performed with the Grammy-nominated Ensemble Dal Niente, including at the Bowling Green New Music Festival and the world premiere of Fausto Romitelli’s “Have Your Trip.”
